If you’ve ever struggled with removing your contact lenses after a long day, you’re not alone. Dry eyes, tired hands, or just not knowing the right technique can turn something simple into a frustrating moment. At Vision Boutique in Corpus Christi, TX, Dr. Ashley Setterberg has walked plenty of folks through it—whether they’re brand new to contacts or have been wearing them for years.
Here’s a low-stress way to take your lenses out, without bothering your eyes.
Seriously, this part matters. Wash your hands with soap and water, then dry them on something clean—not your jeans, not the kitchen towel. Your eyes are sensitive, and the cleaner your hands, the less likely you’ll deal with irritation or infection.
If your eyes feel dry, blink a few times or use rewetting drops. Give it a second. Trying to yank out a lens when your eyes are tired or dry is only going to make it worse. A few blinks can help loosen things up.
Look up slightly, use one finger to pull down your lower eyelid, and use your thumb and forefinger to softly pinch the lens. If it doesn’t come right away, don’t panic. Take a breath, blink again, and try with a bit more patience. You’re not in a race.
If it’s a regular thing, your lenses might not be the best fit—or your eyes might need a break. A quick visit to an optometrist near you can help sort it out.
